DWTS It's Ladies Night!!

Our time in the Hill Country has been good! We made it through the Longhorn Cavern and LBJ's Ranch. Pictures and stories will be posted later. Now onto more important stuff!!!

Shannon Elizabeth. She's a Texas girl, she was alright but nothing WOWed me.
Kristie Yamaguchi. She was GREAT!!! And yes, my votes went to her.
Marissa Jaret Winokur. I don't know who she is but I wish I had this much excitement about things!! WOW!!!
Marlee Matlin. MAN!! She did a wonderful job! Remember, she can't hear a thing yet she was right on with her partner. We were totally cheering her on!!!
Monica Seles. Bless her heart. You could tell that she was totally out of her comfort zone. I believe she will be the first woman to go home.
Priscilla Presley. We were BLOWN AWAY with her performance! I hope when I'm 62 I can get my leg up that high. AHHH, forget it, I can't get my leg up that high now!!
My choices for this season are Kristie Yamaguchi and Jason Taylor.
Please keep us in your prayers as we head to Austin! It makes my stomach churn just thinking about driving there. I think I have a phobia about driving in big cities. The way I look at it is...I'm the only sane person driving among insane people. It completely terrifies me!!!!

My husband would totally disagree with me on the driving subject. That's why I usually try to sleep when we take off on a trip.
See you all Thursday!!

DWTS Men's night

Hello from Hill Country!! As I sit here blogging about Dancing with the Stars, we are under a tornado watch. Most of you know that I am a chicken!!! Therefore, I will be up most of the night expecting to hide in the tub!

The Texas Hill country is beautiful! Mom and I are trying to figure out how to get a whole bunch of rocks back home with us. Only problem is Mike's car has a big trunk, but not that big!

I want those of you that know that I don't drive long distances...I drove to Burnet. Praise God, He watched over us all the way down. Now if he'll get us on into Austin!!!

I did think I was going to throw up, but we made it!! Give God the Glory!!!
Anyway....
Here's what I think, I know you are all anxiously awaiting my thoughts!!! LOL!!!

Adam Carolla. He's either the first or second man gone! I don't know what else to say except, WOW.
Steve Guttenberg. He was pretty good. I enjoyed watching him dance. He made it look fun!!
Cristian de la Fuente. Just because you are latino doesn't necessarily mean you can dance. Cuteness doesn't have anything to do with DANCING!!!
This is Mario. The only Mario I have ever heard of was Mario and his brother Luigi. They were in a game where you jumped over turtles and collected coins. But this dude was good.
Jason Taylor. There's just something about athletes!! He was good!! I voted for him!!!
Penn Jillette. He scares me. I was reminded of Big Foot. He's in the running to be gone first or second. Bye Bye!!

Ok, so there you have it. My "professional" opinion on DWTS! Now I guess I'll get off here, watch the weather and listen to Mom snore! She must have forgotten to take her sinus medicine.
By the way, has anyone noticed that the blogger bar up at the top of your blog is in spanish??? Why is mine in spanish??? And when it automatically saves, it's in spanish???
I'm still in Texas, aren't I???

Compare & Contrast

Two years ago I prayed about Homeschooling Amanda. God has shown me that this is my mission field and this is what I need to be doing for Him. BUT...

Today in English, Amanda had to write a compare & contrasting paper. You know, using a Vien Diagram, rough draft, revising and final copy. In the paper she needed an introduction, comparing paragraph, contrasting paragraphs and her conclusion.

I would have rather had a root canal performed on me at that time. The thought of the needle entering my gum to numb the pain would have been much more pleasant! Because my child HATES to write. How do you get a 10 year old to write in detail??

Now, she can tell me about Hanna Montana in detail. She also knew the details of the story about Mary and Martha when Jesus came to visit. How Mary was the one who washed His feet with oil, Martha doing all that work...

And hard headed!!! That can only come from her father's side. If I say black, she says white.

I don't know how to get her to put it in writing and to enjoy it. I don't mind writing, not that I'm any good at it, as you can see from my post. But for me it's a way of getting things off my mind and express myself. Because I tend to be, for lack of a better word...blunt.

I ran across this quote from Charles Spurgeon: "You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them up in God's fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts."

After today's English lesson, I think I might need to look for another mission field or that army to lead to battle for the Lord.

I'm so glad that we will be taking next week off! Maybe that's what we need, a break. So we can come back and start anew.

Oh, who am I kidding!! At least that sounded pretty good.

Early to Rise, Early to Play

At Cooper Academy, we usually sleep in a bit on Fridays. Since we only do History or Science depending on the semester and a Spelling test.
Today we were awakened early to play...in the snow.
Look at the size of the flakes, Amanda and the dog both went crazy!
This picture was taken before coffee or waffles.
BEFORE COFFEE!!!!

Cookie thief

I want everyone to know that I am ONLY doing this under duress.
My morning started off pretty well. I had my quiet time, woke Amanda up for breakfast then jotted downtown to vote.
We began school around 9:15-9:30am after reviewing my lesson plans.
We took a break, oh around 2:00pm. I thought to myself...OH, my two girl scout cookies that I have allotted myself. The cookies in which God blessed me with. The cookies that God granted me the $3.50 to purchase.
As I soon discovered, THEY WERE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. I searched my little kitchen cupboards and cabinets. I even looked in the trash can!
After speaking to my husband through the wonderful service of Instant Messenger, I receive an email with an attached picture of MY COOKIES being held HOSTAGE. The nerve of some people!!
Attached was this picture along with demands from the cookie snatcher. As per his demands I am regrettably complying:

Okay here is the deal, I have the cookies!!! If you follow the demands no harm will come to your beloved cookies. As you can see from the picture care has been taken during our travels to ensure no harm is done. I got a little worried when I read your blog yesterday and I want you to know I am only doing this because I love you and don't want you to be blind to the truth. The demands are as follows.
1. Post this on your blog for all to see that you are loved 2. The Bible says not have any other god's, I hope you pray through this and make sure God is truly who you love and not these cookies.
3. Realize these are not innocent little cookies. These are actually demons from hell packing huge amounts of calories, saturated fats and trans fats. Their whole purpose is to deceive you and tempt you, to defile the temple of God and derail all you have accomplished through low fat/low cal healthy eating.

Love you,
The Remnant
Ok, I have met your demands...now I WANT MY COOKIES!!!!!

temptation and ramblings

Ok, I know Leslie has already blogged about this, but I thought I would add pictures! Oh, MY!!
Look at that sweet picture on that box. Now how can you say no to that??? And look at those delicious, round, sweet morsels wrapped so prettily and secure.

Oh, those scrumptious, little bites of chocolate, carmel and coconut!! To a woman who has eaten LOW FAT items for over a month now, these things are heaven!!!

And I am supporting a good cause! These "sweet angels" are setting up at Walmart, bringing the tempting items to church and looking all pitiful if you don't buy them. I can not disappoint them, that just isn't my nature...

If you will look, there are only TWO missing and I bought them yesterday around 7:00pm. Only TWO are gone!!

I could eat two a day for six days and have one left over for the seventh day OR I could eat three today and even it all up. WOW!! Decisions, decisions...guess I will be using that new "exercise" bike now.

I read Here that there is a return of BIG 80's permed hair!!! Oh joy!!! I will finally fit in again!!!! OH, OH...Van Halen will be playing at the American Airline Center tonight, can you believe that??? Is that just not the funnest????!!!

We have a praise and worship band at church. They are really awesome! The band consist of 3 men and 4 women. They are all very talented people. Not to mention the drummer is really cute!!! But somehow I am going to video them while they are practicing and make money off of it!!! It is so funny to sit there and watch them practice!

During the middle of a song you might hear a couple of Steve Miller chords or even Johnny Cash. The harmony among the women is beautiful. The bass player is someone who you would NEVER imagine acting "goofy". He strikes me as so serious and solemn but at practice he lets loose and cracks you up!!! Somehow, I'm going to get this on tape!!!!

And did I mention the drummer is really very cute???

Homeschool changes and scares

As a homeschool mom, I am constantly looking for ways to enhance our school and make things interesting and exciting for our daughter.

A lady I met through a homeschool group is very knowledgeable in that she has been doing this for many years so I decided to pick her brain about science and history.

We use all of the Bob Jones curriculum, don't get me wrong, I love using it! But I feel as though history and science should be something hands on and fun! Anyway...

Our resident "homeschool expert" has shown me Apologia Science and Beautiful Feet Books.

I am so looking forward to implementing this next year. Much to Amanda's delight, we will continue to do math and reading throughout the summer. I really liked how the "homeschool expert" conducts their homeschool schedule. They go for 39 weeks total, but they may take off 2 weeks here and there. By September, they are starting a new 39 weeks.

While surfing the Internet today I found this article: World Net Daily

Kind of makes you wonder how much longer we will be able to homeschool our children.

Coming clean

As a kid growing up in the 80's I remember looking at "stars" and thinking "boy, they have it made." That the grass is greener on the other side...is it or is it not???? Recently, Valerie Bertinelli released a book about her life and weight issues. I can totally relate to weight issues!! Praise God, 12 pounds are gone, but it seems as though I'm stuck there. Anyway... I remember watching One Day at a Time and thinking this girl is so cute and sweet. You know, wanting to be "just like her."
Then she had to go and marry this guy...probably one of the best guitar players around. Someone totally wild and seemed to always have a good time. Who didn't want to hang out with someone fun and exciting???

Actually, come to think of it, I did hang around a guy who was totally wild, exciting and ALWAYS had a good time. But in the midst of all of that there was drug abuse, alcohol abuse and suddenly the grass didn't seem any greener.

Fortunately, we found someone who helped us through, maybe one day these two will find Him also. Isn't it strange how you think some people have it made...

Another thing that I will admit to is...We use to watch Saturday Night Wrestling from the Sportatorium in Dallas, Texas. Now, come on...admit it. YOU did too!!! Of course, everyone wanted the Von Erich's to win. Everyone wanted their autographs and to be near them. OH, and to be able to do "THE CLAW."
People actually paid money to see them wrestle at Texas Stadium and have saved memorabilia from those matches. Can you believe that?????
Anyway, just thought I would blog about ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! And reminisce about the past, a little brain dumping. I need to do that every once in a while!!!

Strange order

To start off, let me say that I love my momma! She has put up with quite a bit from me in my teenage years: Sneaking out of the house, saying I am spending the night with one friend and spending it with another, not necessarily telling the WHOLE truth at times and totally driving her crazy.

But someone had to clear the path for the younger three. Heck, by the time my youngest sister showed up, Mom was tired and didn't care. At least that is what we tell sister#4, I'm just sayin'.

Anyway, Mom called me today and said that she has a job for us to do, meaning me and her. Now, I usually do things for Mom since I live one block over. We both enjoy antiques, gardening and trying to build things. This year we both intend on having the Garden of Eden in our yards.

I put the Christmas lights on her house, help her move furniture in and out, taking soup, 7Up and crackers to her when she's sick. You know, ordinary daughter stuff.

The strange order that I received today will probably be the most honorable, I guess...in a morbid kind of way.

Mom is taking care of all of her "last minute" things. Safe deposit box, will, instructions for the 4 girls, picking out a plot, etc.

Come to find out if Mom buys her head stone and takes it out to the cemetery and plants it herself she will save $100.00. DO YOU SEE WHERE I'M GOING????

Now, this wasn't even a request. It was more like: "I can save $100.00 if I take my own head stone out to the cemetery and put it on my plot, so you're going to help me do it".

Dreama: "Excuse me"?

Mom: Uncontrollable laughter!!!! And my Momma is a loud, little woman. Key word: LOUD!!!

It kind of runs in the family...

WOW!!! I couldn't believe it! This woman who gave birth to me wants me to go with her to the cemetery, mix up some sack crete and place her headstone on the spot she wants us to bury her.

In a way, it's sort of creepy but then again at least I get to do this with her instead of for her.

And of course, pictures and blogging of the event will take place as soon it happens.

You make me feel like dancing...not

WOW!! After finding out who is going to be on Dancing with the Stars this season I really didn't feel like dancing.

It's suppose to be Dancing with the STARS. What is going on with that???

Telenovela star Cristian de la Fuente
R&B singer Mario
Magician Penn Jillette
Actor Steve Guttenberg
Olympic Gold Medal Figure Skater Kristi Yamaguchi
Former tennis pro Monica Seles
NFL Player Jason Taylor
Actress Shannon Elizabeth
Radio/TV personality Adam Carolla
Actress Marissa Jaret Winokur
Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin
Actress Priscilla Presley

Who are these people??? Yes, Steve Guttenberg, 3 Men and a Baby movie, Ok
Marlee Matlin, Actress, alright
Priscilla Presley, the only thing I know about her is she WAS married to ELVIS.

Needless to say, I'm can't find anything exciting about this season. I don't think I will be able to Dance the Night Away.

Survivor is back on but I've only seen the first night of it. "Johnny Fairplay" disappointed me by giving up so easily. Fans of the show expected him to actually play and play "fair".

My two favorite shows have let me down, what is the world coming to????

Love is...

Happy Valentines Day!!!

After much thought on this subject, I have made a list of what love is and what it really means. I wanted to share it in case someone was having a hard time trying to figure it out.

Love is...never having to say your sorry??? Yeah, that one has been around and OVERUSED.
Love is...surprising your husband with a Valentine's Day card when you haven't given him one in 19 years!
Love is...taking the time to make sure your child learns their mulitiplication facts, even if it kills both of you.
Love is...taking your dog to the vet at 8am and learning about anal gland draining, don't ask!
Love is...making sure your children have milk and cereal in the morning.
Love is...having clean dishes and utensils for said milk and cereal.
Love is...allowing your child to visit a third world country WITHOUT you.
Love is...sharing Jesus Christ with your family and having your heart squashed!
Love is...cleaning the bathrooms at the church!!! Need I say more?
Love is...clearing your calendar to spend more quality time as a family!!!
Love is...taking your sick Mom to the Dr. and hoping she doesn't have the same problems as the dog!
Love is...trying on a pair of jeans that you haven't worn in over a year and you can get them on, button and zip them up!!! Praise God!!!!
Love is...being able to record "Little House on the Praire"
Love is...taking your child out for a special lunch.

And of course,

Love is..."Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves."-- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is...knowing that someone loved you so much that He died for your sins.

Don't Breathe

OK, I couldn't resist. Miss Tracie talked about this a couple of weeks ago and I fell out laughing!!! Yes, some of us have a strange sense of humor!!!

Grace and Compassion

It seems when you are at your wits end, God always pulls you through. For the past 4 months, I have cried more than I ever have. I am usually one of those that "sucks it up and moves on" but in this case I haven't been able to do that. I couldn't get the "big girl" panties on and deal with it.

God has shown me in recent weeks that if I don't see Him in something then I probably don't need to be involved. There is a huge difference in doing things "just to be doing" and doing things to further God's kingdom.

It is also very comforting to know that others go through this same thing. Even though you think your the only one who is going CRAZY!!!

Bless my husbands heart! He is such a wonderful person! Truly he is. Through all of this he has tried to help, listen and guide. All of this could have been just a really bad case of PMS, mid life crisis or a huge pity party.

It's a gigantic thing when you are shown that you are validated in cutting back on extra activites in exchange for some sort of order to your life and for you family. It is a huge weight off the shoulders!!

God is so gracious and compassionate! He has gotten us through our tough times in homeschooling, through the changes in the church and in our marriage. If there is anyone who thinks that we have it "all together" they are so mistaken. Even at 41, I don't know that I will EVER have it all together.

After coming to this realization I ran across this blog Heart of the Matter .

I want my children to be my ministry. I have heard it said before... but hearing it and putting that knowledge into practice each day... waking up with a burning fire to serve, honor, love, teach, help, and inspire... THAT is the kind of seriousness I want God to create in me. I want Him to remind me each day that I AM in the mission field... and that I AM affecting the hearts of my children with each word, each tone, each glance, each gesture... I want my feet to not stray or my mind to wander. I want strength, wisdom and patience... and to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He is leading the way.

Heather puts it so beautifully. This is exactly what I have been thinking and feeling. I'm so glad that I have been given so many signs about my choices because most of the time, I miss them!

Have a wonderful week!

He's Back...

The child has returned! Praise God!! We went to see him today after church. He has been gone to India for the past 2 weeks. He is good, no "Delhi belly"!! As you can see, he's in front of the Taj Mahl.

We only got to talk to him for about an hour and a half but he seemed excited to actually see what GFA is all about. We heard about the some of the street kids who have been taken in. Boys who are 6,7,8, 10 years old who are left to fend for themselves so they learn how to fight, steal and survive.

He described how they eat with their hands and roll everything in a ball then pop it into their mouths. Michael must have really LOVED that part!!

Michael mentioned how they traveled from one part of the country to the other. They didn't get to go to one place due to the persecution that Christians have endure lately. Some of the places he said that he felt uneasy and even scared, that you could feel a spiritual difference.

To me, that's creepy! I'm just grateful that God was with them for this trip!!

He also commented on the difference between Northerners and Southerners here in the states. Michael said that when they landed at an airport in New Jersey he noticed that no one smiled, no one was nice, people were rude to them and you could feel the tension there. Then they flew into Houston then DFW and found some hospitality. People who smiled and gave them directions and the atmosphere was happy, LOL!!!

Maybe he needs to go do missionary work in New Jersey instead of India!!

Welcome Home Son!! You've been missed!!!

Back in the Groove

It's our third day back in school. Man, it's hard getting up in the mornings when you have slept in for 2 weeks!

Right now, we are at lunch. We like lunch, it's an hour of doing nothing. Amanda usually plays Barbies in between bites. I turn on AMC and get on the laptop.

I was informed today by Amanda that she is the smartest kid in her class!! LOL!!! Our bible lesson this week has been about temptation. I had to giggle Monday when she told her Dad that eating off other people's plates is a temptation for him. LOL!!! So true, so true!! All he could do was grin.

We heard from Michael in India, Praise God!! So far so good!! He writes:

Greetings from the great land of india. Im riding on train. The trip is going well. Tell everyone im okay. Tell melissa im still alive and i love her. Ill see yall soon. I love you guys. Plane ride was to long still fighting some jet lag. India food great. Jesus is beautiful. I can get use to tea time. With love.

Sounds like things are good. Yes, Mama was worried. I'll be glad when he sets his feet back in North America, though.

The changing of eating habits is going OK. I'm still praying through alot!!! We went thru the DQ drive in to get Amanda an oreo blizzard and temptation got me. I ordered a kit kat blizzard, I took 2 bites of it and threw it away. One because it DID NOT look like the picture and two it really didn't taste good. What a blessing!!!

Watching the news the other day I saw a story of some kids from one of the school districts around here who would not be allowed in school due to not getting a hair cut. I just laughed, thought it was funny. Working for a school district you see kids dressed in ALL sorts of things and trying to get away with it. They try to get by with having long hair, pierced tongues, tatoos anything that is opposite of the dress code. Yes, in Texas we have dress codes. You as a parent are informed of the dress code from day 1.

While surfing Drudge, I ran across this. Texas students suspended

I couldn't believe some of the comments people left. I mean, if there is a rule, aren't you suppose to follow it?? I don't know, just thought it was funny!!!

Things I'm tired of...

Webkinz!!! I am sick of that website!! It is crummy!!!! We have registered two animals on that thing and Amanda cannot get to her animals rooms. Their tech support and customer service is insufficient! webkinz

She received another little animal like webkinz called E Pets. Guess what?? It worked!! At least with this one she can get on and do stuff. Like decorate, you know that ALL girls like to decorate! Especially with pink, striped wall paper!!

I will be glad when Monday gets here! That way I won't have to work so hard! The past two days I have worked myself to death! I have broken EVERY nail and my cuticles look horrible.

1) Undecorated the house and yard
2) cleaned out laundry area
3) rearranged, organized and added shelving in Michael's closet
4) cleaned out and organized the kitchen cabinets
5) cleaned out and organized our closet and drawers
6) cleaned out and organized Amanda's closet and drawers
7) took clothes to goodwill
8) refolded sheets and blankets in cabinet
9) clean and organize bathroom cabinets
10) prepare lessons for next week

Sometime tomorrow we have to go to the store, I despise going to the store. We will be buying low fat items, Oh Yeah!!! The past 2 days I have drank Diet Dr. Pepper, my body is starting to eat its own fat. Yes, the "program" has begun!

Mike came home telling me about Sparkpeople.com. A friend of ours is losing weight this way. Isn't technology wonderful?? Now all I have to do is figure out a way for the computer to exercise for me!

Did I mention that we have Dish Network? We now get HGTV!! (best channel in the world) and the Land of the Mouse channel!! Now, I like the "Mouse", enjoyed going to his place in Florida, but I am seriously getting tired of HSM1 & HSM2.

Here let me sing it for you:
"We're all in this together
Once we know
That we are
We're all stars
And we see that
We're all in this together
And it shows
When we stand
Hand in hand
Make our dreams come true"

I even know some of the moves too! It'll be real cute when I lose the weight! (wink, wink)
Maybe I can audition for HSM3??

Just a thought.

More Rambling...

The holidays are now over and it's time for the clean up! Time to take down all the decorations, inside and out.

The hard part about all of that is I have to put it all back in the attic...I have to. Because we took Michael back to GFA last night.

He leaves for India on the 5th and is excited about the trip. Needless to say, Mom's a little apprehensive! I mean, this is the first time he has EVER gone out of the "good ol' USA" and his parents aren't even with him.

I did give him specific instructions though...get batteries for the camera before you leave. Do not take your computer or cell phone over there, do not brush your teeth with tap water, do not drink ANYTHING with ice in it, stay with YOUR people, take pictures of the Taj Mahal, check bottled water to make sure the seal isn't already broken and watch out for MONKEYS!!!

I think that was pretty good advice, I mean, being the world traveler that I am! I hope he got the money that "Noah's Mom" gave him, I can't find it so I'm sure he did.

Next Monday we (Amanda & I) will begin school again! Get back into our routine and back to normal, not that anything around here is normal.

Amanda will be turning 10 on Monday so now it's time to decide...party or not??? I'm really torn about having one for her. Of course you don't want to have one and not invite everyone for fear of leaving someone out and hurting their feelings. Then on the other hand, why not? It's a party for her and she should be able to invite or not invite, right?

Although, there have been times when I have had to explain to her why she didn't get invited to something and it wasn't something that I enjoyed doing. But life goes on...

Wow, it's hard being a 10 year old girl!! LOL!! I'm sure whatever we decide will be fine.

It's 34 degrees outside right now and it doesn't look like it's going to warm up until Friday, so the outside lights might have to wait. Besides, the gable on our roof is steep and I don't relish the thought of climbing up there to unhook the lights.

I have decided that gluttony is a sin. I have also decided that I am a glutton. Therefore, we will begin to do something about this problem. I do not enjoy wearing pants that have an elastic waistband...I want zippers and buttons WITHOUT the roll that hangs over them!!!

The exercise, oh wow, I said exercise...the program will begin as soon as I get away from this laptop. It stinks getting old! And I'm not really old! I'll turn 41 this month. Never in my youth did I think I would be at this point in my life!!! A SAHM, homeschooling, turning 41, who wears elastic waistband pants, who has frizzy hair, not big hair, frizzy hair there is a difference. In Texas it's ok to have BIG hair.

Man, I have a lot to work on!

I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow. -Scarlett O'Hara

It's all over, the house!!

As I lay in bed this morning thinking about all of the things that I must do, I was tired before I even began! My head was full of snot, my eyeballs hurt, my throat hurt and right between my shoulders ached!!

I walked into the living room to survey the damage...it looked like a tornado had hit or a 9 year old had run amok. Every room in our little house was a mess!!

I knew that if I didn't do it, no one would! Oh the joys of motherhood! I finished around 4:00 this afternoon. All of the laundry, plus new clothes were done. All of the wrapping paper in the free world that was in my living room is now gone.

Dishes are clean, pictures from the new camera are now on the computer and my frizzy hair issues will now be solved thanks to a new Chi iron!!!

Cookies crumbs are vacuumed so are the pieces of Play dough, which was compliments of NaNa!

When I finally set down to check my email one struck me odd, since I was in the mind set of "Woe is me"! I have cleaned this place BY MYSELF!!! I'm not doing anything else and yes, we are eating out!!!

After reading the email, I realized that THIS is my job.

Part of the email read:

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58)

The Lord knows about my work as a mom! He lovingly reminded me that my toil is not in vain. He understands how much I need to be encouraged because he understands weariness. His words and my own echoed in my mind: Be steadfast—hang in there—commit to a heart of steadfastness—choose to be steadfast and immovable—why? Because, my work matters, it is changing history, one life at a time—I am soul-building—it counts.

And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, we will reap if we do not lose heart. (Galatians 6:9)

God reminded me through that email that my job is important. Even if it's picking up wrapping paper, doing laundry, making lunch or getting dinner from Chili's, my job is important and tiring.

Family Friendly G-rated blog

Sad news all...

After receiving a comment on a previous post from someone who decided to use a cuss word I had to turn on the "moderate" comments button.

This is a Family friendly (G-rated) blog. Not a blog that has cussing (no potty mouth), photographic nudity, sexual content, or hostility toward other bloggers.

Main Entry: G-rat·ed
Pronunciation: \ˈjē-ˈrā-təd\
Function: adjective

1: having a rating of G; broadly : relating to or characterized by a lack of violence, obscenity, or sexual explicitness 2: innocent, clean

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, which I might add were given to us by our "creator".

And...since it's my blog, I get to post WHAT. I. WANT. If there is something on my "family friendly" blog that you don't happen to like, then please don't visit.

It's like the tv, if you don't like whats on, change the channel or turn it OFF.

Am I wrong?

What a difference a few minutes make...

I received an email today from my youngest sister about Christmas. Right now, they are mad at me for sending them a letter and book.

I decided to answer back. I think maybe I shouldn't have.

Below are are the emails:

Now the ball is in your court, you can either accept Him or deny Him. Either way, I love you but I would like to spend eternity with you also.

Do you remember putting this sentence in your letter? Just wondering if you meant anything in the letter because I guess if I had lied and told you that I did not believe in Him then you would still be coming to Christmas and would have come to Thanksgiving. Hmm, just a thought.
Summer

Here's what I wrote:

Hmm, just a thought. WOW!! No, that wouldn’t have changed anything.

Anyway, Our Thanksgiving was wonderful! No stress or walking on eggshells, we even went out that night to Lindale to see the Christmas lights.

My family and I will be spending our Christmas here. I will send our gifts with mom so that all will have them.

I should have known that you all would take my heart-felt letter and book in the wrong way. But biblical things are foolishness to those that don’t understand. And when confronted with sin the only thing one can do is be defensive.

It was selfish of me to ask my husband and children to spend holidays around people who have no understanding of us and make us feel uncomfortable. You mentioned that all of you are saved…saved from what? What did Jesus actually save you from? Can you name anything? And if He saved you from it, are you still doing it and why?

Out of all of them…you were the one that surprised and disappointed me the most. Rhonda couldn’t care less and Robin wouldn’t know Jesus if he walked up and slapped her.

I don’t understand why people call themselves “Christians” and don’t act like it. The word means “Christ-like”. If one isn’t going to be Christ like, then those need to call themselves, Buddhist, Muslim or something else. It’s a shame when someone can’t share Jesus with others, I don’t know when that became a bad thing.

If you want to CC…the others in on this with your response, please feel free to do so. Although, I did think that our conversation last time was between just us. A discussion about the differences between “religion” and “Christianity” will have to wait since I am so busy “recruiting” people for Jesus.

I’m not into having an email war or anything like that; this will be the only one I send. But if you would like to bombard me with emails, please go ahead.

I will continue to pray for you and the others because “When you pass and come back to let me know that I am not on the list to get into heaven then I will have a problem with my life and do some things differently” then it will be too late for you and that’s what breaks my heart. Hmm…just a thought.

Then here's what I got back:

Haha. Talk about a Jesus Freak that is just what you have become. What is funny is that you will read this email back to you and see that I have cc’d my sisters so they can see that you have totally called them out again. Haha. I know for a fact that your daughter wanted to come to Nana’s because it was boring at your house on Thanksgiving and she wanted to play with the other nieces and nephews. Sad you hide from the truth only now when you look at yourself the most.

I’m truly sad for you. You are uneducated and blinded by the preaching of a church and religion that has only been around 2000 years. You worship Jesus who himself NEVER proclaimed to be God and you take verbatim the words of the three synoptic gospels of the bible (matthew, mark, and luke) with disproportional emphasis on the gospel according to John. Everyone knows the author of John wrote the book for the sole purpose of convincing the reader that Jesus was the Messiah and the Son of God and through him you will have everlasting life. Why? Because this was his belief and his story to tell. Then you try to convince us and your family that your form of Christianity is somehow the right one and closer to the message of Jesus Christ than mine when the truth is today’s Christian message is so far removed from the historical message of Jesus that it is an embarrassment that the word Christ is in the word Christianity. I mean, hello…Jesus was a Jew to begin with and would not step foot in a Christian church today…he would have been at the synagogue…with the other jewish believers.

However I shall let you be with you and your family alone as you have chosen to so poetically state below. I guess we never thought you would be the one that would have moved so far to the other side of the fence you couldn’t see swinging to hit you in the face. The only people you are harming are mother and your children and if you can not see that then that is your problem and not ours.

Your loving and sinful sister,

PS Sorry Mom, Rhonda and Robin….just thought I would reach out, didn’t work.

Needless to say, I didn't answer back. But boy did I want to!!! As I sit here writing this post, I have tears in my eyes...Am I wrong for what I wrote? Am I wrong for worshipping God?? What is the deal with people??

She's right...Jesus wouldn't be in a church today, He would be out talking to people like her.

To make matters worse, Poor Mom, she's caught in the middle and won't take sides, although I know who's side she would take.

I'm not sure who I'm crying for: me or God.

Wow, they just don't get it. Or maybe I don't. I hate drama. So anyone out there, please pray for these lost people and for me.

It's A Wonderful Life

The holidays use to make me crazy!! I would rush around and try to find gifts for people that I thought they would love, spend way too much money and stress that everything would be "perfect".

After many years of that I now realize there isn't any need in it. Yes, I still spend money on gifts (but not as much) and usually the reason for me going crazy is because of other people!! LOL!!!

No, really I got to thinking...how each one of us touch someone in one way or another. We don't realize it, it just happens. I think about the people I have met and how bits and pieces of them have affected me in good and bad ways.

I'm sure I have affected people in both of those ways also. Hopefully, more in good ways, though.

I am learning to appreciate those that come into my life whether it's good or bad. I need to learn from both experiences.

Like in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life". You never know who or how you will touch someone, even for a moment.

Just a thought...

What Christmas is all about...

We have a winner!

And the winner is...
Ok, so I didn't pick him, but it's ok. I don't have to boycott the show next season! Sabrina still should have won!!!!

Can't wait

I can't wait until 7:00pm!!! Tonight is the final night for the dancing and tomorrow the winner will be announced! WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!! Since Sabrina isn't on there anymore my new choice as winner is....Mel B. Don't get me wrong, Helio and Marie did great but Mel is the better dancer! So please vote! The Osmonds have a HUGE family!!!

We also started back to school today, that was so hard considering we have been off for about a week and a half. But we only have 4 weeks until Christmas break so that is a BLESSING!!

I love Christmas!!! I love waking up and watching the kids open their gifts on Christmas morning. The looks on their face is priceless. I enjoy picking out things for them and surprising them! It was probably more fun when they were little. I'm not sure if it's more fun for them or me.

Michael helps every year hanging the lights on the house. Even though he's 19, he still had to do it!! I couldn't allow him to miss his yearly duty! You know, tradition and all. It is also a tradition fighting the timers that the lights are on, it never fails, I can't get them synchronized. Although the timers are set at the same time, it doesn't work!

I totally enjoy decorating the house inside and out! I'm a "light" person! I would keep them up all year long if my husband would go for it. If I could get away with it, I'd hang them in my room!!
Of course, the real reason is the birth of Jesus Christ. The song Mary, did you know is probably one of my favorite songs. Did she know?? Did she know that her little baby would be so important, so praised, so holy but also so controversial and despised?

It's so weird, You mention His name and people have so many different reactions.

Hey, did I mention that the Cowboys and AGGIES both won over the holidays??? Gotta go dance, if Mel doesn't win, I may have to boycott next year!!!

Happy Thanksgiving

“As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common, everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness — just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breathe it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.”
-Laura Ingalls Wilder

God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving!

My Thankful List

We have so many things to be Thankful for this year!! Next week I will be cooking turkey, dressing and all the fixin's. It will probably be just our "little" family but that is fine. I look at my kids and thank God for all He is doing in them!

I look at my husband and I'm so thankful that he is now a Godly husband, lets just hope he remembers the "little" things he has decided to do for his wife.

I am a LIST person! If it's not on my list, then it doesn't get done. I have 3 list sitting beside right now as I prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I don't function if I don't have a list.

So, I thought I would be totally self indulgent and make a list of what I am thankful for. I know that most of the time throughout the year that I forget to do this and need to ask God's forgiveness for being inconsiderate.

3. My family
4. My friends (of course, I had to put all of that)

13. A comfortable bed
14. Toothbrushes
15. Carpet...we didn't have any for about 3 years
16. Being able to help other people.
17. Living in the USA

19. Walmart
20. Dish Network, Thank you!!!!! no more "rabbit ears".
21. food
22. water
23. washing machine (do we really realize how easy we have it?)
24. homeschooling my child
25. Army
26. Navy
27. Airforce

Black sheep of the family

A few weeks ago I talked about telling my sisters about Christ. I mentioned that they really didn't like to be around us because they feel like we are "judging" them and that I didn't know if they were really saved. I wrote them a heart felt letter and sent them a book by Mark Cahill called One heartbeat away.

Well, I got my answer. The youngest sister emailed wondering why she didn't get a package in the mail like the other sisters, it's in the mail somewhere. Anyway, I sent her the letter that I mailed and now I have made them all mad.

It seems as though when you feel God telling you to do something that involves family it turns out so badly. I used the Way of the Master approach , ten commandments and did it lovingly, or so I thought.

I mentioned that people create a god to suite themselves and their needs...boy, that went over like a lead balloon.

I got tickled that it didn't take long for them to start calling each other and compare notes.

I am and have always been the black sheep of the family. The sisters and mom just don't get it. I drew the line in the sand, either your for Jesus or your against Him.

Excerpt from letter that I received back:

We do all have different lives and different ways that we each connect to our Lord, whoever we believe that may be. I know it is your responsibility to try and recruit as many people as you can to follow Christ but at the same time we all know that there is nothing that you could say to any of us that we would not somehow take defensively because we feel as if we are being judged at all times when we are around you guys. None of us do bad things….some of us drink wine, some of us watch shows that have sexy scenes, we may read a dirty book from time to time but for us it is living life, with our Lord in it everyday as well. When you pass and come back to let me know that I am not on the list to get into heaven then I will have a problem with my life and do some things differently but I am very happy with myself, my family and my relationship with GOD…yes the one and only..we know who this is.

Guess God is into drinking, porn and smut??? When I pass and come back(?) to let her know that she's not on the list to get into heaven...it will be too late!

When did sharing Jesus and what He is about become judging??? When did worrying about your families salvation become something bad?

Am I not allowed to ask someone if they are saved? Will I see you in heaven? I don't want to have my family say "Why didn't you tell me??" and then it be too late. Most of all, you want your family with you in heaven.

So tonight when you say your prayers, remember Rhonda, Robin, Summer and even Phyllis.

I'm kind of thinking "duct tape" is now the answer!!!

Odd combination, dancing and letterboxing

What in the world is going on??? I can't believe people didn't vote for Sabrina Bryan!!! She should have been in the final two. Marie Osmond was completely shocked that she was in the "safe" category. Sabrina was totally shocked that she was in the bottom 2. I was too!! The last two years I have picked the winner or final two. Sabrina was my girl. It's sad to see her go!
We decided to take the week off of school and do a littleLetterboxing . We'll just call it Fall break. Here we are somewhere in Kemp.
The object of this activity is to find the letterboxes and exchange stamps. Don't forget to take along a stamp pad.
Some of the places you have to check out are cemeteries, libraries and fields. This place is located north of town behind a church. The church is precious! And when you stand in front looking out it is so peaceful and calming.
Here Amanda found one under the base of a tree. The person who planted this one used camouflage material.

The boxes we hunted also had some history to go along with them.
We did have to take a lunch break...The Pennsylvania Bakery has wonderful sandwiches...
AND blueberry muffins!!!
Of Course, we had to drop in and see Nana.

We are still on the hunt for letterboxes around here. It will probably take us all week long, I mean Fall Break, to track down the boxes closest to us. I know, some people have too much time on their hands. I'm glad they did, Amanda has really enjoyed getting out and hunting. Hopefully, we will be able to find the rest.

Praise the Lord!!!

Ok, I had my child tested today...Actually a lady that my Mom works with is going to school to be a diagnostician and she has to test kids at different ages. She tested one of my cousins a couple of months ago and wanted to test a younger child, so I volunteered mine.

As a "homeschool mom" this is a SCARY THING!!!!!!

If you haven't heard as to WHY we chose to homeschool Amanda, here's the story:
Why Homeschool

Anyway, the test took about an hour, as of the time of this posting, I don't know what she made. The woman still needs to score it, but she set down with me and began asking questions.

I explained to her the whole story of not being able to hear, tubes, thoughts of dyslexia, testing for it and our decision to homeschool.

She told me that Amanda is a smart, little girl (well, of course she is) but there were 2 things that we needed to work on...Vocabulary and patterns.

Thank you LORD!!!! We know what to work on and how to do it. We already knew what her problems were and that they stemmed from not being able to hear. We knew she was behind.
That was one of the reasons for praying about homeschooling.

Lynn asked about math and reading...Amanda hates both it's like pulling teeth. Amanda is a visual learner and I am trying to make our lessons "hands on".

As a "homeschool mom" I am so relieved!!!! This is something that we can totally do!!!! I keep thinking....we are not total failures!!! LOL!!! Not that I really thought we were but it's scary to think that your not making a difference in your child's education. The thought does run through your mind "Are we doing the right thing"?

I have been Praising God for what he has done with Amanda! Lynn doesn't know the half of it and she wouldn't be able to test it even if she did.

Lynn mentioned that she may need to test someone else later, after the holidays so I might let Amanda do it. I'm just not sure that I can handle it!!!

Homeschooling???

Wow!! I kind of forgot that the purpose of this blog was to chronicle our homeschool experiences. I'm beginning to think that I'm ADD...

My child sometimes does her math and spelling in a tent...call me a bad mom, LOL!!!

Our Homeschool Co Op visited the local Fire Department during Fire Safety week. The kids had a wonderful time and the men at the Fire Department did a great job!!
When Dad isn't working from home...the table is ours!! We tend to take advantage of the situation.

During one of our bible studies we learned about Hezekiah. Here is a sun dial that she created that day. Unfortunately, it was cloudy...

And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees? 2 Kings 20:9

Why have the shadow go back 10 degrees on the dial of Ahaz? What do you think???

I thought it was an incredible story!

Brain Dumping

I do my best thinking while cleaning...I clean all the time!! Therefore, I think all the time, LOL!!!!

Last night we made it to the high school football game, We won!!

Anyway, Mom and I sat with some of my blogging friends, I recognized them from the pictures I posted. I probably need to take this opportunity to apologize to Kenneth for making fun of the fact that he has a metal SS card. I never knew anyone but my granddad who had one...

I like to kid around with people, we are ALWAYS kidding around at home and that carries over to the outside.

I sometimes go over board with kidding and joking and forget that some people might not know how to take me. I can sometimes come across as pretty bold and/or obnoxious, which "most of the time" I mean nothing by it, LOL!!

The other night at Life Group we talked about being imitators. We are in Ephesians 5 and it speaks of being imitators of Christ. Life Group is a time of sharing, getting to know one another and answering questions that have to do with life, past and present, then about the subject of the lesson.

Our questions for the night were things like:

Who did you most want to be like in high school?
What famous person can you imitate?
Other than Jesus, what famous person would you most like to be like?
Then some that pertain to Ephesians, Paul and Jesus.

It all starts off as "trying to get to know you questions" then heads to the Biblical aspect.

What I noticed and was shocked about was no one really answered the questions about their high school days. Nothing about imitating other people, NOTHING.

I couldn't believe that no one wanted to be someone else while they were in high school. There were so many times that I wanted to be ANYONE but ME!!!! A woman did give the answer that in high school she wanted to be Madonna. OK, I admit it...I did too!! I grew up in the 80's. We wore the leg warmers, bangle bracelets, big bows in the hair, yes, we looked ridiculous!!!

There were times I wanted to be Valeria Bertinelli just because she was married to Eddie Van Halen!! And look how that turned out.

I can't believe that there wasn't a man there who didn't want to be like a pro football player, baseball player, or rock star at the time they were growing up. I was shocked that nobody could relate.

Then I thought that maybe I was "abnormal". It would not be the first time that this has been brought up.

I look back at my life and I know that I would not have done anything differently. God meant for me to go through everything I did so that I could get to where He wants me to go.

There were things in school that I did or happened that I needed to go through. This way I can share them with my children at the right moment. Hopefully, that will keep them from doing the same thing. But they will have to lead their own lives and figure out who they want to imitate or not.

Maybe we should remember what we were like before Christ came into our lives. Remember who we wanted to imitate and be thankful that God showed us who we truly should imitate.

Remember imitation is the highest form of flattery.

Blogging Moms, commercials and MY SOAPBOX

Did anyone see the ABC evening news the other night about Blogging Moms?

The woman at this blog Because I said so was the one being interviewed. Guess what?? Her blog brings in around 1,287,966 people (according to her stats) and around $4000.00 a month from ads.

My husband said that I needed to get on the ball with the bloggin'. WOW!!! I need to check into adds. According to the report blogging is a way for Moms to get in touch with one another and Moms are now turning to other Moms for advice. WOW!!
ABC News

Shouldn't we have been doing that anyway???

Today was a rough school day. So much so that we had to go to WalMart and buy something. Something creative...paint and a birdhouse. We were also looking for something for this FIZZ that I call hair. I know I should be grateful that I have hair but I am a fuzzball!! My Frizz Ease NO LONGER WORKS!!!!!

If I were to cut it, it would be EVEN WORSE!!!!!! I think I might start doing like my great Aunt and wear hats!! She always has a hat on I have often wondered if she has a night hat. You know, like the ones that Mary and Laura Ingalls wore on Little House on the Prairie???

Anyway...

A new friend of ours will be leaving this Friday for the Middle East. Be careful John and our prayers are with you!!!

And has anyone noticed that in the news lately everything seems to involve a little, three letter word that starts with "s" and ends with "x"??????? (Don't want anyone to search that word and end up here). Maybe I'm getting old, really old. I'm getting really tired of everything revolving around that 3 letter word!

God intended for that to be "special", between a man and woman not thrown around lightly...

On GMA this morning there was a discussion about schools providing birth control to Middle school girls...birth control as in the pill. Here's the article, read it for yourself. How Young is to young .

Why, Where, When and How!!!! Can you imagine an 11 year old taking "the pill"??? I'm speechless...

Dove has come out with a commercial called Dove Onslaught...you can take a peek at it on Youtube. It deals with little girls, self esteem, beauty industry and all of the ads and commercials that we are bombarded with. Every single ad that is represented on their commercial has to do with how we look, what we weigh, or what society thinks we should be like and it is all directed toward women.

Speaking of commercials, Have you seen the one for T Mobile My Faves??? The red headed kid who oinks in it belongs to a girl that I went to school with down here. She was one girl that you DID NOT WANT TO MAKE MAD!!! or be on her bad side. His name is Eddie Hassell, we called his mom "Sam". My Faves

Let me see if there is anything else I can get on my "soapbox" about???

No, I can't think of anything else. Please pray that tomorrow will be a better school day. I don't think I can handle going to WalMart again...

Say it NOW!!!!

Yesterday, I attended a funeral of a cousin who was 7 years older than me, we share the same middle name and our mothers were first cousins.

Let me say that this was the oddest funeral I have ever been to.

While sitting in the pew at the funeral home I realized that the music being played was country music. It was bar hopping music, beer drinking music. No hymns, no soft, comforting music
no Amazing Grace is played.

I hadn't seen Tammy in quite a few years so I didn't really know how she lived her life. From attending the funeral I assume that Tammy liked to have a good time, play loud country music and party. She and her family are/were into the rodeo scene, I believe they had a box at the Mesquite Rodeo or something. At the grave site--a cowboy rode in Parade Dress leading a riderless horse with Tammy's name on it.

During the service a slide show and video interviews were shown. This is what struck me as odd...in the videos the family members talked to Tammy as if she were still alive. For example, we'll see you soon, I love you and I'm going to miss you, thank for the memories.

Now I am NOT criticizing or judging anyone. Everyone deals with death, loss and grief in totally different ways. I was sitting there watching these interviews thinking, "Why didn't you tell her this stuff when she was here" or "did you tell her this stuff when she was here"? "Why are you waiting until she's dead to say these things"?

Then it got me to thinking...How many of us actually do this with our family? How many times do we regret not saying I love you to someone we care deeply about? When it's too late, we can think of so many things we want to say.

Why not act like it's too late and go ahead and say those things to our loved ones? Write a letter, email, text, call or meet for lunch.

I have 3 younger sisters, although I look younger, I have decided that I am going to do just that. I am going to call them, email, text and get together with them for lunch. Now they won't like it because they seem to feel as though I am always judging/preaching to them. I think they are being convicted and don't like that feeling.

You mention God to them and they can't get out the door or off the phone fast enough!!! But if I truly love them I will let them know that I do, and that there is someone who loves them even more than I do!

So, May the words of my mouth...be pleasing in your sight (and not confrontational).

Science projects, etc...

I told you...it would be between Albert and Wayne...but I thought it would be Wayne Newton booted off of Dancing with the Stars. I have to say if Mark Cuban had been kicked off I was going to have to boycott the show. He did good but the judges DO NOT like him for some reason...I'm just saying...
In Science last week we studied about protons, neutrons, electrons and atoms. Along with that Amanda had to conduct a few little experiments using this battery and wire.
She made a magnet out of a long screw and learned that the like sides of a magnet will repel one another instead of attracting each other.
Amanda also had to connect a switch to the wires and battery. She attached a compass to the wire and was able to see the power shut off and on. The needle would spin around and around when the current flowed through the wires.

This week in Science we will be looking at digestion! Yummy!!Digestion Video

During Bible Truths class Monday and Tuesday we studied The Temple that King Solomon built. I found this really cool site that someone took a long time to put together. You're able to take a virtual tour of the Temple and Tabernacle.
3 D Bible Project

Did you know that if you are a licensed gun owner you are able to take your gun into the State Fair of Texas??? Of course you have to show proof of registration, How crazy is that??

Wonder if you can get ammunition while buying a corny dog??? WOW!!
