Trip to Kansas

Today we did something that we haven't done in years!!!We actually took off to Kansas City to spend the 4th of July with Mike's family. It's been quite some time since we've done that but the city that my sister in law lives in still has the parade. Everyone from people running for senate or Governor to the people in the Renaissance Festival were there.

Amanda and her cousin, Kaya, went around selling paper flowers they had made the day before so they would have money to buy fireworks.  The police, fire department, Shriner's, bands and old timey cars got into the act too.

Everyone still stands as the flag goes by which is nice to see considering most in our country today could care less about patriotic things. And every once in a while, a son will do something nice for his Dad. Mike isn't allowed to mow at home. He mows everything down and refuses to move chairs, etc.

We've been out by the pool since we've been here. I'm in a competition with a friend of mine to see who can get the darkest this summer. What's so funny about that is she's hispanic...

Amanda is enjoying herself so far. Let's see how next week goes. She'll probably get homesick, miss her friends and want to head home. That's a small sample of what we have going on here, right now.
Happy Fourth Y'all!!!!!
