King Tut
Today, a group of us took off to see the King Tut Exhibit. My husband was thrilled to see things that belong to a dead guy...Anyway.
I enjoyed it. It' amazing to me that this stuff was around AGES ago! It's history and I enjoy learning about history. The one thing most of us said that we were disappointed with was there was no sarcophagus. The picture you see in the all the adds, it's not there.
I was suprised to see that most of the artifacts were made of wood overlaid with gold. When I think of Kings and Pharaohs I think of opulence. Maybe that's just the movies, too much Cleopatra or Ten Commandments.
We also noticed that quite a few of the symbols were actually crosses with big ovals at the top. The meanings of those symbols were "life". My friend and I kept thinking about all of the items in biblical terms. It's weird to think that people actually believed in gods that would carry you into the afterlife. There were gods that guarded your internal organs. A book of the dead that contained spells, which is really freaky in itself. I'm just saying...
Anyway, I hope all that went had a good time.

Let's see
It was the first time I've ever witnesses Simon blown away.
Well, according to our "schedule" we are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. Amanda has finished with her handwriting book, her reading book and we have one more week of English left. Since we're switching math curriculum's, she'll be doing that subject over the summer.
But never fear, most of our friends homeschool over the summer so she can't use the excuse, "my friends won't be doing school" Ha ha ha!!!
Today, 144 years ago our 16th president died. In history, we've been reading about ol' Abe and thought how ironic it was how the dates fell.
Today is also my Mom's birthday. She would have been 63 years old. Would have been...strange phrase isn't it?? We usually all bought her something for her yard. Now, most of her stuff is in mine.
Don't forget if there's a tea party in your area, go make yourself heard.
The dog, Prissy, goes to the groomer tomorrow!! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!! I vacuumed yesterday and there's hair on the floor AGAIN!!! She's one of those hairy dogs so if she's not cut short, she sheds!!! EVERYWHERE!
Amanda and I went to see the Hannah Montana movie yesterday after her lessons. It was cute! We both enjoyed it. Except Amanda wouldn't let me get up and do the "hoedown" Boom De Clap...
I come from the days of the "cotton eyed joe" . Minus the dresses and small phrase that you say...I'm just saying. I really looked for a clip w/out the "small phrase", couldn't find it...
Anyway...Happy Birthday Mom, Happy Tax Day, Happy Tea Party Day

The Patriot
This weekend we watched an old movie called "The Patriot". I had forgotten about it. In Amanda's history lessons we have been reading and talking about Ben Franklin, George Washington and Abe Lincoln. Read and talked about the American Revolution and now the Civil War.
It might be corny but after reading these things to Amanda and watching this movie I just wondered what these men who risked their lives would think about our "globalization".
Did they lose their lives for the UN to tell us what to do? Did they risk everything for our constitution to become null and void??
It's a sad situation that we find ourselves in. Just a thought...
