Two of my favorite things are Gone With the Wind and musicals.
I love sitting down and watching Scarlett give the people around her fits. I love that Margaret Mitchell created a strong heroine that goes after what she wants. Yes, even though it is at the expense of others. Through the book and movie I always thought about Scarlett having "everything" that a woman could want: beautiful child, adoring husband, magnificent house, self sufficiency and "not a care in the world".
All throughout the book and movie, Scarlett believes that she will only be happy if she can get Melanie out of the way and have Ashley. She never realizes until the end that she was really and truly happy until everything is gone. It reminds me to be content with what I have...
My second favorite thing is watching musicals. My husband can't stand them. He doesn't understand why these people can't just say what they mean without breaking out in song. A couple of years ago, Mom and I went to see "Phantom". It was FABULOUS!!!. We were enthralled with the performance and the story..."the music of the night".
Now guess what???
Someone is making Gone with the Wind into a MUSICAL???? I just can't imagine.
Why would anyone bother messing with such a classic movie and piece of literature??? I don't believe I will be paying money to see this. I can't see Scarlett singing..."Oh, fiddle de de" or "After all...Tomorrow is another day". And what about "Frankly, my dear"?
Needless to say, I am depressed.
