Homecoming and Small town Texas football

Homecoming 2007 is now over! It was fun and everyone enjoyed themselves. Our team won and the most important thing is the Ex's Association raised quite a bit of money for scholarships.
Thank you so much Former Students of MHS!!!

Our small Texas town still has a Homecoming Parade, Queen and nominees. The cheerleaders, drill team and former classes make a showing in the parade. The oldest class represented this year was 1937.

Along the parade route, we encountered MANY people who should have been IN the parade!! Especially those who represent the 70, 80 and 90's. You know who I am talking to!! I believe you were on Market Street and Troupe Street???

Of course, along with small town Texas football comes kids running up and down bleachers, yelling for your team, nachos and tempers. Here, tempers don't have to flare over the actual game, it can be about kids running up and down in front of people who are trying to watch the game.

Admit it...you know that when you are at a game your kids are up and down, up and down or you make them stay out of the bleachers to play with their friends.

My mom always made us stay down with our friends since it was rude to be running back and forth interrupting people. In other words...we were NOT ALLOWED!!!! Unless we were bleeding, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

We knew when and where to meet them during half time and at the end of the game.

Now, parents don't care. People just let their kids run amok. Respect for others is something that is overlooked.

There was a teacher who once said that "We have to spend our time here at school teaching manners because parents won't".

I heard a story about an incident at a football game once.

A mother and daughter were sitting in the stands on a Friday night watching a high school game. Children kept running in front of them to get to their parents, squeezing in between the small isles where people rest their feet.

You have to move your feet or stand up for people to get by. If someone does that say, 7 times during the 1st quarter you are going to be upset.

Mind you, a man had already put an end to this situation on the isle he set on with the same children.

The daughter said "no, your not coming through this way anymore". (After awhile that gets very old.) The children's mother got extremely angry about this and confronted the daughter with "Oh, yes they will come through here". You know how we women get, bobbing that head back and forth then sealing it with a "I'm better than you." look. Prompting the husband to spout something which in turn makes the mother say something back.

Right now this story is as clear as mud, right?

Actually this happens a lot. I would have really been surprised to hear this about this "christian" couple had there not been witnesses to the incident.

Shouldn't we as "Christians" reflect love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and above all else "self control" even at football games???

Or should the daughter have just kept her mouth shut???

I see both sides...I do. I have small children who like to run around. But not at the expense of others.

And what if that daughter was a lost soul??? Now she knows that there is no difference between her and the children's mother.

It's kind of what Julie said on her blog...Who would you like to meet??? It's the same with Myspace...somewhere it will say that their hero is Jesus but most of the comments they have on there are vulgar, nasty or sick. And they will Thank Him for everything but they have a picture of "Bud" as a layout.

It's the same when you go to a football game...you are a layout for Christ.

Now the Men...

Ok, let me say that the men didn't impress me as much as the women. Why??? I don't know. Last year and the year before you had Apollo and Emmitt...this year??? I don't know. We'll just have to wait and see.

Wayne Newton: I'm still scratching my head over this one. Mr. Las Vegas???? Mom insist that when he was younger he was red headed. Anyway, I don't really know how long he will last. I think it will be a toss up between him and Albert as being the first man voted off.
Cameron Mathison: What a handsome young man...kinda reminds me of my son! He wasn't bad I did cast a vote for him. His partner Edyta is gorgeous!!! And they look good dancing together. I hope he goes far.
Floyd Mayweather: A dancing boxer??? He still looked like he was boxing while he was dancing. It's hard to really say anything about these guys since there was NO stand out.
Helio Castroneves: Ok, I take it back...there is something to say. He was very good! I enjoyed watching him. He is also dancing with Julianne the winner from last year and she is a tremendous teacher!!! I think he'll last to the end. Besides, he is precious! I voted for him twice.
Mark Cuban: I was very surprised by him. This dude had hip surgery not to long ago. I think he truly wants to win this contest. I did vote for him 2 times. One, because he was very good and he looked like he had fun, Two, he's from Texas!!!!
Albert Reed: Who is this guy??? He's cute and all but not a dancer! I had to vote for him because Momma said so. According to Mom, "He's cute and funny"...but what he did could not be considered dancing. It's a tye between him and Mr. Las Vegas as to who will leave first for the men.
There you have it...my critique of Dancing With the Stars. As if you really wanted it, but if you know me, I always throw my 2 cents worth in even if you don't ask for it!!! LOL!!
I can't wait until next week!!!!

The Dancing Women

Let's get right to it...

Amanda and I headed over to mom's last night to watch our show. It's really mine and mom's show but Amanda wanted to tag along. Last night the women did their thing first. I secretly want to do this...but I have one thing holding me back...hubby, LOL!!!
Jane Seymour: who can forget her in East of Eden, Somewhere in Time, and Dr. Quinn. This woman is 56 years old and is so beautiful. She looks real, not made up or plastic. She reminds me of what a lady should be, prime and proper. Look under elegance in the dictionary and her picture will be there. She did very well last night! I voted twice for her.
Jennie Garth: I was never a big 90210 fan. I don't remember why I wasn't but I wasn't. She is adorable! I enjoyed watching her! I am now regretting not voting for her.
Josie Maran: I have no idea who she it but Bless her heart. I don't know what else to say except I think she will be the first to go.
Marie Osmond: I like Marie Osmond! She is so funny and has like 8 kids. When you have that many kids you need a sense of humor! She did so good and looked like she had a ball. I voted twice for her.
Mel B.: I don't know where I was when the Spice Girl invasion hit many years ago. I'm truly glad that I don't remember! Anyway this lady did a good job. Not much to write home about though.
This little girl, Sabrina Ryan, I do not know what a Cheetah Girl is and frankly I do not care. This girl rocked!!! She and her partner did a fabulous job!! Yes, she got in trouble for "hip hop" moves but the girl did a wonderful job! I think she will be in the final two if she keeps this up! Mom made the comment "She's a chunky little thing". Hey now, chunky little things are alright!

The only thing I could say was WOW!!
WOW –interjection 1. (an exclamation of surprise, wonder, pleasure, or the like): Wow! Look at that Cheetah Girl!
Mom and I were blown away, needless to say my last two votes went to her.
Let me once again say that I AM NOT A FAN OF THEIR CLOTHES!!! I am into the dancing part. I don't even pay attention to what they wear except for the heels, I don't see how they do it.
I know I could be blogging about something else. Something worth while, something that would inspire people, something that would make a difference in someone's life. I could but it's my blog and I want to talk about Dancing!!!
Tonight the men take to the floor. I'm sure I will have something to say about them! Until then...

To my blog friends, and readers,

I thought I would pass along Homecoming Information. For the past couple of weeks the Ex's Association has been making plans for the Former students.

My job as secretary has been to "coordinate" the parade. So if you want to be apart of Homecoming here's your information.

Homecoming is Sept. 28-29. We will play Wills Point at 7:30 on Friday evening.

Saturday starting at 9am participants will begin lining up for the parade. Line up starts behind the Rodeo Grounds. Of course, we head down Market street and wind back to the Pavilion.

Following the Parade, if you head up to the New High school you can enjoy a meal for $10.00. There will be an auction going on too! All of the proceeds go toward scholarships for the seniors who apply. So there is a method to the madness.

Following is a list of the classes that will be participating in the parade. Maybe your class is already listed. If not, get some of them together and come on out for some fun!!

Random thoughts dancing in my head

Today is my honey's birthday...Happy Birthday!! I have known this dude since I was a Sophomore in high school. We started dating then and were "High school sweethearts".

I really can't think of to many of my classmates that have stayed married to the same person for 20 or more years. Now days that is a colossal achievement.

Now don't think that everything has been a "bed or roses". Of course we have wanted to string one another up at times but have refrained from doing so. Only because of the children.

I have known him since he was 18 years old. WOW!! and now he's ??? I've seen him at his worse and his best. It makes me really proud to have him by my side (not in front or behind) and that he is willing to deal with my issues. Not that I have that many, mind you.

Anyway...Happy Birthday, I love you!!

Now on to the important stuff...LOL!!

School. School. School. Need I say more. We have been so busy! Tomorrow we will finish our first unit of Bible truths, Good bye Moses and Joshua. Man, it has gone by quick! Our next unit we will begin to talk about David. I'm excited about it!!

Place Value...ones, tens, hundreds, thousands...WOW I think she understands it. She made a 71 on her test over it. 70 is passing, right?? Have you ever had to write 43,743,821 in expanded form lately???

English will be learning how to write a personal narrative story. Of course Amanda will write about our Orlando trip. So maybe she will be excited about it.

Spelling, Handwriting and Reading...same ol' stuff.

Science will be dealing with electricity...in the science kit there is a big battery, wire and a switch. I have NO IDEA!!!!! I am scared!!!!!

And...has anyone been to the video store lately???

We went in last week to rent some movies for the weekend. Is it me or has anyone else noticed that the ONLY MOVIES they have to rent are SCARY, NASTY OR STUPID???????

It gives me chills to look at some of the covers! There are only 3 rows of "Family/kids" movies. You know...Sound of Music, Air Bud, Annie, Disney stuff. What is up with this??

It is very discouraging to go in and not be able to find anything to entertain me. I do love to be entertained!!

Speaking of entertainment...SURVIVOR begins tomorrow!!!
Then DANCING WITH THE STARS next Monday!! I am so excited!!!

I think I watch these shows because I secretly want to be able to do this...I'm a weenie and would NOT make it on Survivor. I hate bugs and I'm bossy...I would be kicked off at the first Tribal Council, if I lasted that long. I totally enjoy our AC and running water. Like I said, I'm a weenie.

And to Dance! I would love to be able to dance like those dancers. It takes an incredible athlete, discipline, and practice to be as graceful as they are. But the only thing holding me back is the "Birthday Boy". He wouldn't be caught dead doing that. He would rather have toothpicks shoved under his finger nails.

Now for the record...I am NOT a fan of their costumes. Mine would have to have a little more material! Maybe some from Texas Tent and Awning!!! Shoes, couldn't do heels. I don't even own a pair of heels, I can't even walk in heels! And of course, I'm sure somewhere in there height would be an issue. So I would be dead in the water.

Well, I'd better be going so "Birthday Boy" can eat.

Mothers and Daughters

Mothers and Daughters or is it Mothers VS. Daughters??? The bond between Moms and their little girls has always been a difficult relationship. I haven't experienced with too much turmoil with mine yet but it will come.

I know there have been times that my Mom and I have driven one another CRAZY!! We don't see eye to eye all of the time. In fact, there have been times when we didn't have a relationship. We come from a long line of hard headedness!!

Little girls grow up, change, develope and at some point have to figure out who they are. Girls have to find a way to deal with all of the changes that are going on with them and it can be overwhelming. Even for the Mom, especially for the Moms! And let's not mention that there will be "certain times" that NOBODY understands them!!!

Moms just want to help. It's our job to "make things better". It's what we do!!! Sometimes we need to stand back and let the girls "figure" it out for themselves. It is our job to make sure our daughters know that we are always there for them to catch them when they fall.

I remember a number of years ago, we moved to Duncan, Ok. from Dumas, TX. I called my Mom crying about not being able to find a house, my husband was at work, I had a little boy and we were stuck in a hotel room.
Mom never babied us. She loved us but never "babied". I was informed to get up and stop whinning. Go find yourself a place, no one is going to do it for you.
Needless to say, I minded my mom.
If I need something sewn or want to vent...MOM. We call one another on Mondays during Dancing With the Stars.
But for the Moms who are having a hard time seeing you daughter grow up and go through her "growing pains"
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

And PRAY!!!!!!

Week 2 of homeschool

Well, week 2 of Cooper Academy is over. This week began with some extra curricular activities...We went to Six Flags with some relatives on Monday.
It was Labor Day, the weather wasn't too hot and there weren't that many people there either. We had a very good time and the kids had a blast!
Then on Tuesday we played catch up:
We finished our study on Moses and learned the books of the Old Testament. Amanda already knew these so it was a refresher.
In Math we finished reviewing addition and subtraction and made a 92 on the test!! Yes, I do give my child test. Next week will be a review over place value, OOOO Exciting!!!
We had our regular subjects throughout the week but added the "extra" stuff. On Wednesday Amanda resumed her spanish lessons from our friend, Liz.
Thursday, she and I both began guitar lessons. Yes, guitar lessons. Do you know how long it has been since I took any lessons of any kind???
I took guitar lessons in the third grade, I was 9 years old...WOW, I'm old!!!! The guitar was bigger than me at that time, oh how I wish I could say that now, LOL!!!! It's just learning chords basically and it's something that we can do together.
Next week begins cooking class on Tuesday afternooon for Amanda, not me. Although my husband probably thinks I need to attend this class since all we seem to do is eat out.
Friday was our first homeschool co-op of the year. I didn't realize how many kids would be there! The Co-op this year has different classes for the kids. Sewing, nutrition, PE and crafts. The kids range from Kindergarten and up. I believe the kids had a good time and that's really all that matters. See link in side bar.
This week we didn't have as many "projects" to make. I'm afraid next week we may have to hunt down bugs. I don't like bugs...that's why I couldn't be on Survivor. I'm to BOSSY and hate bugs!!!
Speaking of Survivor...it begins September 20 at 7:00pm. Dancing with the Stars starts September 24th!!!!
We purchased a copy of Microsoft Student with Encarta http://www.microsoft.com/student/default.mspx for Amanda. It looks amazing and will come in handy with Science.
This week was extremely busy and I'm thankful for the weekend! Just think, we get to do this all over again beginning Monday!!!
